Kailash Yatra

Mount Kailash is one of the world’s most sacred spots. To experience its spiritual energy you must go there but with the right intention in mind. This is a pilgrimage and the intent should be to visit it for peace, both within each person and then the world. Tibetans leave an article of clothing or a drop of blood, hair or a stone to symbolize leaving their prejudices behind them. One should leave their ego, anxiety and meanness here.
Before setting of for this journey ,check out some of the unbiased travellers reviews of how to go on this ultimate pilgrimage which promises to be a adventure too .

HI FRIENDS,
THIS IS ARPITA CHATTERJEE FROM KOLKATA. WE WERE A GROUP OF LADIES ON THE KAILASH TRIP IN JUNE 2007. BEING PART OF THE FILM INDUSTRY WE ARE USED TO A LOT OF PAMPERING AND LUXURIES WHEREVER WE TRAVEL.
BUT AFTER EMBARKING ON THIS ADVENTUROUS PILGRIMAGE WE WERE EXPOSED TO THE HARSH REALITY OF NATURE IN TIBET. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE CONTRARY TO OUR EXPECTATIONS AND COMMITTMENTS MADE BEFORE OUR DEPARTURE. WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE FULL DAY AT ZHANGMU BUT SO WERE A LOT OF OTHER YATRIS FROM INDIA. TO ADD TO OUR WOES THE FOOD WAS NOT UPTO THE MARK. MOST OF US HAD STARTD FEELING SICK. AT ONE POINT OF TIME WE HAD DECIDED TO PROTEST AND RETURN TO KATHMANDU. BUT FATE HAD SOMETHING ELSE IN STORE FOR US. SEEING US DISTURBED A PERSON INTRODUCING HIMSELF AS RAJ JOSHI CAME OVER TO US AND WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WAS THE MATTER. WE DID NOT WANT TO SPEAK WITH HIM SINCE HE WAS A STRANGER, BUT ON MY ADVICE THE SENIORS IN THE GROUP LISTENED TO HIM.
HE WAS VERY FRANK AND TOLD US THAT IF THEY EXPECTED LUXURY ON THIS TOUR THEY SHOULD LEAVE FOR KATHMANDU RIGHT NOW. IN THE SAME VEIN, HE MADE US UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE ALLRIGHT IF WE STAYED CALM. HIS WORDS HAD A SOOTHING EFFECT ON US AND WE REQUESTED HIM TO GUIDE US ON THE TOUR. SINCE THE OPERATING UNIT FOR BOTH OUR GROUPS WERE THE SAME, IT WAS NOT DIFFICULT CONVINCING HIM. AFTER THAT WE WERE LIKE SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE YATRA. WE GOT ALL THE ATTENTION WE WERE CRAVING FOR. THE TEAM OF LEISURE PORT FED US WITH BENGALI CUISINE TOO.SOME OF THE LADIES ENJOYED COACHING THE BOYS ON BENGALI DISHES.
WHEN WE REACHED LAKE MANAS, WE WERE NOT VERY KEEN ON HAVING A DIP, BUT A LITTLE PROD FROM RAJ MADE US JUMP INTO THE WATER, NOW WHEN WE VIEW OUR RECORDING AT HOME, IT SEEMS LIKE WE WERE ENJOYING IN THE SEAS OF GOA. THE PARIKRAMA OF KAILASH WAS AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. IT WAS DREADFUL ON THE SECOND DAY BECAUSE WE WERE GOING ON AND ON AND THERE WAS NO SIGHT OF OUR CAMPS. BUT THEN AGAIN THE TEAM OF LEISURE PORT MOTIVATED US AND WE COMPLETED THE WHOLE PARIKRAMA. WE COULD NOT BELIEVE IT THAT ALL OF US WHO WERE CRIBBING AT THE START WERE NOW WANTING TO SPEND A FEW MORE DAYS IN THE KAILASH REGION.
A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT THE YATRA. BUT WE WISH TO STATE THAT THE YATRA IS TOUGH FOR WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT CARRY HUGE EXPECTATIONS. ALL THAT YOU NEED TO DO IS WORK OUT A LITTLE ON YOUR PHYSICAK ASPECTS BY WALKING AND DOING YOGA AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL IS PRAY TO GOD THAT YOU ARE BLESSED WITH A SINCERE TOUR OPERATOR. GOD WAS VERY KIND TO US AND HOPE HE IS KIND TO ALL THE YATRIS.

I find myself wanting to punch in a few words whenever I see a site or a blog on Kailash Mansarovar.
I was very fortunate to have gone on this greatest pilgrimage of my Guru..Lord Shiva in 2003. And moreover the experiences will be etched on my mind till I cease to belong here.
I weighed 86 kgs and had flown down from Texas. I had initially booked with Kesari Travels to undertake this tour. Due to the SAARS scare in China, Kesari cancelled the tour. Since I was adamant on going, I tried to find out a few travel agents. An ad in the Loksatta caught my eye and I contacted one Raj Joshi from Leisure Port. No one I knew had heard about this company, which made my family members a little skeptical about about the tour.
Mr.Joshi cameover to see me since he was close to my residence.
Being a devotee of Lord Shiva, I trusted him but my family could not and cast aspersions on his autheticity. Mr. Joshi left after his presentation, but before that he gave mean ultimatum of 24 hours to decide. I was unable to sleep in the night and against the advice of my family members I paid Leisure Port the total amount the next day.
Everything was ok till I set out for the Parikrama of Kailash. It rained on the first day and continued on the second day. I reached Dolma La with great difficulty. I chanced upon Mr. Joshi there and requested him to accompany me till the campsite, Zuthulpuk. He agreed after seeing me struggle. The climbdown was difficult because of the rain and I held on to Mr. Joshi throughout the ordeal. At times I cursed myself for not listening to my family. And now my hopes were pinned on Mr. Joshi and Lord Shiva.
We finally made it to the camp but after spending the night in a Tibetan tent enroute. My fellow traveller Jagruti Bhutta was also with me and not once did we feel helpless because of the group leader, whom we had begun to address as Raj now.
After reaching Kathmandu, I started
feeling better and now when I still think about my experience at Kailash, I pray to God and thank Raj in the same vein.
Om Namah Shivaya.

My wife and myself went with the Proprietor of LEISURE PORT - Mr. Raj Joshi in the year 2002 and it the whole yatra is still fresh in our minds even today. He was like a son to us throughout the tour. And we thank God for that because we could not have asked for a better person to accompany us on the tour.
May God Bless the yatra of every person who reads this blog.
